My Journey into UX/UI

I didn't start my career in UX. I spent 15+ years understanding people, businesses, communication and complex environments. Over time, I realised that much of my work was already about shaping experiences - UX simply gave me a more structured way to do it.

The Skills I Carried Forward

Understanding People

  • Market research

  • Customer communication

  • Journey thinking

Making Complexity Clear

  • Information architecture

  • Content strategy

  • UX writing

  • Visual communication

Bringing People Together

  • Stakeholder management

  • Business communication

  • Collaboration

  • Facilitation

Thinking in Experiences

  • Experience design

  • Design thinking

  • Usability

  • Human-centred design

Why UX/UI Became the Natural Next Step?

Across advertising, media, banking, branding, technology and employee communications, my work kept coming back to the same questions:

Who are we designing or communicating for? What do they need? What is getting in their way? And how can we make the experience clearer and more useful?

Moving into UX/UI was therefore less of a career reset and more of an evolution - bringing together the strategic, communication and people-centred skills I had developed over the years with formal training in human-centred design and usability.

Today, I use both perspectives: the empathy and structure of UX, and the business and stakeholder understanding built through a broader career.

Beyond Work

I’m curious by nature and like observing and exploring what shapes how we think, feel and act.

I’m also learning German (A1 done, on to the next) and love making things with my hands. Pottery nerd at heart.

Here are a few of my pottery creations, from playful illustrated cups and sculptural pieces to functional ceramics. Pottery is something I’d love to explore more deeply in the years ahead, perhaps even as a retirement passion.
